When the Greenway Says “No” and the Parking Lot Says “Yes”

Today’s run came with a plot twist.

I had a solid plan: head to the greenway, enjoy a peaceful run, and check the miles off the list. Simple enough—until I arrived and discovered the greenway had other ideas. Unplowed, snowy, and clearly not interested in hosting runners today.

So I pivoted.

Enter the high school parking lot: freshly plowed, wide open, and surprisingly welcoming. Was it scenic? Not even a little. Was it exciting? Also no. But it was safe, clear, and available—so I embraced my new route and started looping.

Round and round I went, logging 4.5 miles while laughing at how quickly a “nice run” turned into a parking-lot tour. It wasn’t glamorous, but it got the job done. And honestly, there’s something oddly satisfying about making the best of what you’ve got.

Today’s run was a good reminder that training doesn’t have to be perfect—or pretty—to count. Sometimes it looks like adapting, finding humor in the moment, and getting your steps in wherever you can.

Miles logged. Lesson learned. Parking lot to the rescue! 😄🏃‍♀️
